ADHD shows up differently for everyone

What some people struggle with isn’t necessarily what everyone struggles with.
Yes there is a common theme, but for some people they may struggle with one aspect more than another or to a higher degree than someone else.
ADHD is specific to you and you need to understand your areas of struggle and the level to which it effects your life.
For instance, someone with inattentive type ADHD and/or cognitive hyperactivity may struggle whilst walking to the kitchen, to pay attention for long enough on the walk there, that they actually forget to turn the kettle on.
- This may be due to being side tracked by something else that visually catches their attention.
- This could be due to so many incoming thoughts going on in their mind at once, that they forget what they were about to do.
- This could be due to impulsivity, where another thought pops in and they act immediately to that thought, without realising what they were meant to be doing.
Does this impact your life?
If you are being impacted by this in your life it’s time to work out strategies as to how you can stay on track. For someone with a visual type of processing modality, they may need to picture the kettle whilst on the way there, for a verbal processor they may need to speak out loud the action they are needing to take until they actually reach the kettle. For another they may need to implement a dance move on the way to the kitchen to remind them of what they are doing. There are many of ways to explore and this is not a one size fits all.
It’s about working out what works for you. Clearly this can affect your work requirements or family commitments and an array of other areas of your life and it depends on its importance level as to how it’s affecting you.
